SE Waite and Son is a fifth generation family business that has been situated at 186 The Parade Norwood for over 100 years. We are a Furniture, Giftware and Kitchenware store with a handy hardware section.

We have in stock an extensive range of furniture, which suits a large variety of budgets and requirements. This range includes bedroom, dining and occasional furniture to suit the needs of the family home or those who are downsizing to smaller dwellings.

We also stock a diverse range of giftware for all ages and tastes, you are sure to find something unique and affordable for that special someone.

Our comprehensive range of Kitchenware will enhance your home and cooking. We stock an impressive range of cookware, kitchen gadgets, preparation items as well as table top necessities such as napery, glassware and dinnerware.

Sidney Edgar Waite (1889 – 1951)
Sidney had a number of vocations including: conducting on horse drawn trams; working in a tobacco factory; driving for Colonel Seager (anauctioneer); and driving for Arthur T. Dungey of 186 The parade Norwood. Sidney went on to work as a salesman in 1918 for the firm and then to own the business in partnership with Alf Hall in 1921. He became sole owner in 1925.

Joffre Walter Waite (1915 – 1990)
Joffre attended Norwood School in Osmond Terrace and then went on to Norwood Central School, which he left at 15 years of age and began working for his father, sidney. He married jean Darlington in 1940 and together they had three children: Peter, Judy & Gary. During the Second World War, Joffre served in Papua New Guinea, and upon his return managed the business. He worked at S. E. Waite & Son for 53 years before retiring in 1984.

Gary Walter Waite (1946 – )
Gary attended Maryatville Primary School and then Norwood High School, leaving at the end of third year to work with his father in the family business (1961). He married Patricia Polain in 1967 and together they had two children: Christopher & Shane. Patricia Waite became a partner in the family business in 1980 and continues to manage the business, Gary has semi retired and now enjoys working 3 days per week. This year is Gary’s 53 year at S. E. Waite & Son, equaling his Fathers years of service.

Shane Lindley Waite (1973 – )
Shane was a Magill Primary and then a Norwood High scholar, who commenced work in 1990 after completing year twelve. In addition to working full time at S. E. Waite & Son, he started his own manufacturing business, supplying furniture to S. E. Waite & Son up until Gary’s semi retirement in 2007. In 2000 he married Kellie Montroy and together they have two lovely children: Jacinta & Hayden. Jacinta now enjoys helping serve during holiday time, meaning now that the fifth generations of Waite’s are being taught the ropes.
